The Mindy Solomon Gallery has teamed up with the Jonathan Ferrara Gallery to present the photographic works of Generic Arts Solutions (G.A.S.) at SCOPE NY, Booth A11, March 7—11.
Generic Art Solutions is a dynamic “art team” consisting of artists Matt Vis and Tony Campbell, who make concept driven artwork, often with humor and/or mischief at its core. Matt Vis holds an MFA from the University of New Orleans and Tony Campbell has an MA from The Royal College of Art. Their works blend art history and humor to comment on present-day concerns such as immigration, capital punishment and man-made disasters. Their goal is not to merely replicate past masterpieces, but to beckon dialogue between the past and the present.
In the words of the artists: “It has been said that the only constant is change, and it is change that either excites us or creates fear. That which we cannot control ruthlessly illustrates our position of involvement in this perpetual revolution weather we like it or not. This show is a call to action. It represents our belief that faintheartedness is to be despised.” – Generic Arts Solutions (G.A.S.), 2011
