In its article ‘60 Fall Gallery Shows You Can’t Miss,’ ArtNet featured our upcoming exhibition, Folkloric Acid: the Work of Einar and Jamex de la Torre: “The fall art season is upon us, when galleries return from their August hibernation…In September alone, hundreds of shows kick off around the country, and we’ve picked out 60 that we are particularly keen on…the more intriguing and far-out (the outrageous blown-glass sculptures of the de la Torre brothers at Mindy Solomon in Miami).” The show opens Sept 19-Oct 31 at Mindy Solomon Gallery, with new lenticular lightbox pieces to dazzle the eye. The Opening Night Reception on Friday, Sept. 19th from 6-9pm, will include a tequila tasting with the de la Torre brothers in attendance, sponsored by Gramps bar.
In other news, the de la Torre brothers have recently been honored with an acquisition of one of their mixed media works by the Corning Museum of Glass in Corning, NY.
“Visually loud, with loaded iconography and aggressive colors, the de la Torre brothers’ art is confrontational, humorous, and ironic. Born and raised in Mexico, Einar and Jamex de la Torre moved to Southern California in 1972. Dada and surrealist elements abound in their work, and they intentionally incorporate and re-interpret pre-Hispanic and Catholic motifs with a Dadaist or surrealist slant.”
