Mindy Solomon Gallery will present video work by Generic Art Solutions at the Moving Image art fair during Armory Week. The exhibition takes place in the Waterfront New York Tunnel, at 269 11th Avenue, between 27th and 28th Streets in Chelsea. This curated event is free and open to the public; it was conceived to offer a viewing experience with the excitement and vitality of a fair while allowing moving image-based artworks to be understood and appreciated on their own terms. Gallery and artist participation is by invitation only. The presentation is comprised of single-channel videos, single-channel projections, video sculptures, and other larger video installations.
Generic Art Solutions will feature Pushmi-Pullyu: The Collaborative Cycle, titled after the two-headed lama in Doctor Doolittle’s stories, in which the creature has two front quarters—each at odds with the other—trying to go in opposite directions. Pushmi-Pullyu speaks to the collaborative process itself—a back-and-forth of ideas, and trusting that the direction and vision of others is of benefit to a project when one is unable to clearly see how to reach the end goal. This concept also applies to human relationships generally, which to most of us are also an exercise in collaboration, trust, and the pursuit of a common good.
